Elphias Doge is part of the Order of the Phoenix and has been since it started. He is about the same age as Dumbledore. He is also part of Harry's Advanced Guard, who took him from Number 4 Privet Drive to Number 12 Gimmuald Place in the fifth book/movie.He is one of Dumbledore's best friends and knew him better than about anybody. He went to Hogwarts with him since his first year. Harry meets him at Bill and Fleur's wedding and has a conversation about Dumbledore with him. Harry mentions the eulogy that he wrote about Dumbledore that appeared in The Daily Prophet and he liked it. In that eulogy, Elphias mentions that he had traveled the world after school while Dumbledore had stayed at home, caring for his family. He asked if any of the stuff in awful Rita Skeeter's new biography was true and he said it wasn't. Ron's Great Aunt Muriel overheard and chimed in. She is a very gossipy person and loves Rita Skeeter's writing, even if it isn't true. She claimed what Rita Skeeter said was true and Elphias argued about it. He claimed none of it was true, even though some was. He mentions in passing that Dumbledore had lived in Godric's Hollow, and Bathilda Bagshot, who was likely Rita's informant, lived there still. He also mentions that Godric's Hollow is named for Godric Gryffindor because that was his home town. He was played by Peter Cartwright in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, a role which had no speaking parts, and will be played by David Ryall in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I.
