Remus J. Lupin, a true Gryffindor at heart, was Harry Potter's third Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. When he was a boy, he was bitten by the evil and ruthless werewolf Fenrir Greyback, passing down Fenrir's Lycanthropy to Remus. Often labeled an outcast because of being a werewolf, he often faced discrimination from anti-werewolf laws. Even when he was a boy there was a chance he could not go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry because of these laws, and most recently, the tyranny of Ministry Official Dolores Umbridge. Lupin shifted from job to job after finishing schooling from Hogwarts, where he was best friends with Harry's father James Potter, Sirius Black, and friend turned traitor Peter Pettigrew. He cared for his friends above all, almost to a fault, and was often considered the least reckless and most rational of the group, having been named prefect in his fifth year. When his friends discovered he was a werewolf, rather than rejecting him as Remus had expected, his friends learned how to help him control his wolf behavior, as a werewolf is harmless to non-humans.In his later years, Lupin became one of the most important members of the Order of the Phoenix and their quest to stop Voldemort, and was considered the leader alongside Harry after Albus Dumbledore's death. He fell in love with Nymphadora Tonks, and the pair even had a son, Teddy Lupin. The tragedy of Lupin's life is that he never got to see his son grow up, as he and his wife were killed in the final battle against Voldemort and his Death Eaters. He was killed by Antonin Dolohov.
