Luna Lovegood is a Ravenclaw student and is one of Harry Potter's close friends. She is often picked on because of her unconventional beliefs and approach to life. While this torment usually only goes as far as people calling her 'Loony', it has also included people pushing her down stairs and theft of her things. Luna is extremely good-hearted and treats such acts as mere fun. She saw her mother die when she was little and therefore can see thestrals, toward which she feels a particular affection. Her father, Xenophilus Lovegood, publishes the Quibbler.The following information comes from the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Therefore, there is no guarantee that it will be entirely accurate for the film version of Luna.Her father is one of the believers in the Deathly Hallows and seekers of them. When Harry, Ron, and Hermoine visit in search of information, Xenophilus tries to betray them to the Death Eaters. He is driven to this desperate act to ransom his daughter, whom they have kidnapped. Luna, imprisoned in the dungeon of the Malfoy's home, is later rescued along with other captives by Dobby, at the cost of his own life. On returning to school, Luna becomes a leader of the DA and fights in the Battle of Hogwarts. Following the victory, she creates a diversion to help Harry have a moment to himself.
