The Governor acquired his nickname from the people of Woodbury, a rebuilt and seemingly idyllic small town ruled by the charismatic leader. The Governors backstory is mostly a mystery, though we know he at one time had a family, including a young daughter. Along with a small army of enforcers and a trusted advisor, Milton, the Governor provides safety to the residents of Woodbury by keeping a vigilant watch on the makeshift walls surrounding the town. He, too, investigates the possibility of curing the undead epidemic for very personal reasons not immediately revealed. With the arrival of Andrea, the Governor finds a new confidant, though his motives and feelings are often obscured. It doesnt take long before the Governors true self is revealed, much to the consternation of Ricks group of survivors. Still, the majority of the Governors followers remain loyal to him and his vision for Woodbury as a sanctuary in an otherwise insane world -- such is the force of his dominant, confident and oftentimes charming personality. It is his considerable inner demons, however, that result in great cause for concern for those select few who are privy to them. He possesses a strong sense of justice so strong that some consider it warped.
