Sgt. Abraham Ford is a former Army member. He is traveling to Washington, DC with Rosita and Dr. Eugene Porter, a scientist who claims to know how to stop the virus that causes the walking dead because he worked on a top-secret government project that involved using highly contagious diseases to fight other diseases. He first appears in season 4 by helping Tara and an injured Glenn after they escaped the destroyed prison and went to look for Maggie.Abraham's overriding priority is getting Eugene to D.C. at all costs, so that the world can come back . After helping Rick and his group take revenge on the cannibalistic Gareth and other surviving members of Terminus (for eating Bob's leg and attempting to take Rick's group hostage at the church), Abraham takes Glenn and Maggie with him to DC as extra help in keeping Eugene safe, and as the price for his help in delaying his trip to take down Gareth and his crew.Abraham is a decent person and leader, but very single-minded and intent upon helping to get the world back to what it used to be, or at least better than it is with the walkers running rampant. He overrides anyone who gets in his way, unless they can offer help. He often refers to getting Eugene to DC as his mission and places all his belief in Eugene's claim that he can get rid of the walkers. He strikes up an affinity with Glenn, though he admits he had to do some horse trading to get Glenn (and Maggie) to join him. You get it, he tells Glenn.Later on, after their fire truck breaks down again, the group smells a foul stench and notices that there is a large horde of walkers right in the path of the road. Glenn and the rest of the group suggest doubling back to take a detour, but Abraham refuses. He gets into a violent argument with Glenn, which prompts Eugene to confess that he is not a scientist: he is a liar who wanted to get to DC because he believe the government facility he claimed to work for was the best place for survival, and he wanted to survive. Abraham, already angry and frustrated, could not take the dashing of his dream for a cure and severely beats up Eugene.A series of flashbacks shows Abraham in civilian clothes, right after the outbreak. He apparently beat up some men who had turned and tried to attack his family. It is revealed that he was once married to a woman named Ellen, and they had two children. After he beat up the men, he went to find his family, who were hiding in another room where they had set up camp. They turned to face him with fear on their faces. He told them they didn't have to be afraid anymore, then looked down at his hands, which were covered in blood. The family was holed up in an office when he awoke to find that his wife and children had left him, with a note saying Don't try to find us. It is implied that he may have been abusive toward them. He left to find them anyway and discovered their bodies by the side of ht road, eaten by walkers. He yanked his Army dog tags from his neck and put his gun in his mouth, intending to kill himself. He was stopped by the sounds of a man screaming for help; it was Eugene, being chased by walkers. He killed the walkers and was going back to his attempted suicide when Eugene begged him not to go, stating, I have an important mission. He currently enjoys an intimate relationship with Rosita, though he still wears his wedding ring.
