Tara Chambler is a former Atlanta Police Academy student who lived with her father, her sister Lilly, and her niece Meghan. She was the protector of her family until The Governor (who survived Woodbury and was now using an alias he saw scrawled on a building wall) shows up at their door, requesting sanctuary. She and her sister slowly fall under The Governor's spell (though they knew him as Brian), allowing him to protect them and allegedly leave for a safer place after their father dies and Brian kills him after he turns. As they traveled with The Governor and added survivors to their group, Tara met Alanna, with whom she began an intimate relationship. Tara was the only one who seemed to question The Governor's motives and rationale when he proposed taking the prison, where Rick's group lived, for themselves. When The Governor's group of hardened survivors gathered outside the prison and gave Rick an ultimatum to leave or die, Tara listened to Rick's plea for them all to live together. It was clear that she had even more doubts about The Governor's plan when he ignored Rick's statement that there were children inside who would die on the outside, and said that there was no way they could coexist. Rick noticed this when he asked Tara directly, Is this what you want? She was visibly shaken when The Governor killed Hershel.Glenn found Tara sitting alone, within a fenced-in garden area, when he was leaving the destroyed prison. She was reluctant to leave, telling Glenn, I was a part of this as she looked around at the overrun, bombed prison. Glenn managed to get her to leave with him by telling her he needed her help if he was to find Maggie. They fought their way to the road, only for Glenn to pass out from exhaustion and injury. Tara was bashing a walker in the head when Sgt. Abraham Ford and his group (Rosita and Eugene) found them. They teamed up with the trio, which ended up helping Glenn find Maggie, which they did in the tunnel where Glenn and Tara tried to take a shortcut. The night before they traveled to the tunnel, Abraham accused Tara of having confused feelings for Glenn, who was only focused on finding his wife. When Tara and Glenn were rescued from walkers in the tunnel by Abraham, Rosita, Eugene, and Maggie, Glenn covered for Tara and said that he found her on the road. He knew that if Maggie knew that Tara was part of The Governor's group that killed Maggie's father Hershel, Maggie would try to kill Tara.Tara was part of the group captured at Terminus and escaped with Rick and the others. She offered to ride to Washington, DC with Abraham, Rosita, and Eugene if Abraham stayed a bit longer to help Rick find Bob, Daryl, and Carol.Tara is stronger than she thinks and deeply regrets following The Governor and his ill-fated plans for taking over the prison. Her assistance to Rick and his group (especially Maggie and Glenn) is her way of trying to atone for her mistakes; she also confessed to Maggie that she was with The Governor's group when they attacked the prison, and when he killed Maggie's father Hershel, to which Maggie forgave her explaining that it's in the past and that she's part of the group now which is all that matters.
