Lt. Carlton Burk is one of the crew leaders aboard the USS Nathan James. His specialty is tactical teams. He is responsible for the tactical teams training of the younger enlisted crew members; in earlier episodes he is seen being especially hard on Miller, whom he believes has the makings of a good soldier. Since he is a tactical specialist, Burk is usually part of the land teams ( Vulture Team ) dispatched from the Nathan James, and tends to be chosen by Cmdr. Chandler to accompany him. Burk is a very good shot and practical; he very rarely questions Chandler's methods and motives but if he does, he quickly says, Aye, sir and does what is asked of him.Burk was part of the efforts to find Chandler's family at the Olympia compound in Baltimore. He also helped shut down the power plant (along with Chandler and Green) and infiltrate Avrocet along with Thorwald's men. After the Baltimore situation was resolved, Burk helped rescue the medical personnel from the hospital ship Solace (which carried the components of the Norfolk lab, for security reasons). He, along with Chandler, Tex, Green, Ravid, and Wolf, infiltrated the Immune/Chosen compound in an effort to discover the whereabouts of the British Navy sub and the identity of its crew. He ended up helping Chandler and Ravid abduct the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, who was now the President of the United States based on the rule of succession (he was 12th in line), from the compound.Burk has a huge crush on Ravid, the Israeli officer who was part of a special military study exchange program between the two countries. He initially thinks she is interested in Wolf, the officer from the Royal Australian Navy, but Tex informs him that Wolf only thinks of her as a sister. Burk constantly tries to engage Ravid in conversation but she keeps him at arm's length. He thinks that she is interested in him as well when she kisses him during their infiltration of the Immune compound, but she tells him later that she only did that in order to distract him while she set his broken nose back into place.
