Amy Granderson was a high-ranking member of the President's Council before the virus hit.She lives in Baltimore, Maryland and is the mother of Lt. Alisha Granderson of the USS Nathan James. Alisha seems to be her only child.Amy Granderson arranged for her daughter to be assigned to the USS Nathan James due to Dr. Rachel Scott's research for a virus cure. Amy is running a makeshift local government, with the help of the Maryland State troopers and the Baltimore police, and is focused on keeping an elite few safe at Avrocet, a converted pharmaceutical company. People are only granted sanctuary at Avrocet if they gave certain skills, like security, science, etc. Everyone else is directed to the Olympia compound, where people are injected with a poison created by Avrocet's head scientist, Dr. Hamada, that will kill them quickly and painlessly. Amy Granderson says she does this so that people won't get sick and die a painful, drown-out death that will infect even more people. She has her police squad take over the Nathan James and kidnaps Dr. Scott to teach her scientists, headed by Dr. Hamada, how to create the cure, and then administer the cure to the special Avrocet group. Amy believes that this is the only way to preserve a more robust and vibrant society; her rationale is the death of so many artisans, scientists, etc. during the Black Plague in medieval times. Amy invites Lt. Alisha Granderson to join her in her social experiment, but Alisha refuses and asks her mother for her surrender. Amy refuses and has Alisha taken prisoner. She later tells the residents of Avorcet that the building is under attack and to shoot anyone in a Navy uniform. This leads to Alisha being shot in the abdomen by a state trooper.Amy's sworn enemy is former detective Thorwald, who used to be on the Baltimore Police force. Granderson offered him a position on her security detail, but he refused and led those not sick and seeking sanctuary to the underground. She is confronted by Thorwald when his group stormed Avrocet and shut down the power plant in a joint effort with a team from the Nathan James; however, a State Trooper shoots Thorwald before he could kill Granderson. As Granderson attempts to escape via helicopter, Cmdr. Chandler catches up with her on the roof of Avrocet and tells her about Alisha being shot on her orders. He also informs her that the crew of the Nathan James has reclaimed the ship, most of her state troopers were dead, and the people living in Avrocet have run off. He orders her to call off the helicopter and stop the killing at Olympia. She finally complies after thinking about it. Chandler then offers her a jury trial of her peers, but she injects herself with a vial of the poison used on the Olympia people and dies.
