Sean Ramsey is the leader of the Immunes (the people who are naturally immune to the virus). He is from Britain. He likes to brag that they took Europe as a result of their natural immunity and ability to organize other Immunes.Sean and his younger brother Ned were crew members aboard a British Navy submarine when the entire crew, except for Sean and Ned, died from the virus. Sean quickly named himself as captain and managed to recruit a ragtag group of mercenaries--also immune to the virus and with some submarine training-- to help him run the ship. Sean is very filled with his own importance and is increasingly at odds with Ned, who doesn't completely buy into his brother's grand vision, and wants to quit while they're ahead and return to England and start their lives over there. The submarine is an Astute-class Achilles sub, which has very dangerous and accurate Spearfish missiles and advanced sound matting.Sean believes that those who are naturally immune to the virus are the Chosen People meant to rebuild the world's population with more naturally immune people. Since this involves the Immunes only interacting with other Immunes, his beliefs are reminiscent of the views of Adolf Hitler--though Sean believes the to be more in line with Charles Darwin's theories of natural selection. Sean sees the virus cure as a threat to his beliefs and is on a mission to destroy all of the cure and the means in which to create it. Sean manages to find the former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development who is now the President of the Unite States based on the plan of succession. Sean intended to use the President, who is also naturally immune, to get the American people to carry out Sean's vision of an Immune human race. However, Cmdr. Chandler of the Nathan James--along with Tex, Lts. Burk, Green, Ravit, and SCPO Wolf--all infiltrated the Immune compound and rescued the President. They also took an injured Niels as a prisoner. In retaliation, Sean starts a radio broadcast that tells the living that the Nathan James is trying to give a cure that doesn't work, and that people should fight them if they see them.Sean enlists the help of Niels Sorensen, who stumbled into one of the Immunes camp in Florida. Niels helped Sean identify the labs that were mass-producing the cure so that they could be destroyed. Niels, since he is a carrier of the cure while being immune himself, also helps identify other Immunes: he goes to a populated area and they see who dies from the virus and who doesn't. His crew tried to destroy the Nathan James once Niels told Sean about Dr. Rachel Scott and her work aboard the ship. The Nathan James managed to outsmart the sub and Sean ordered the sub to do a quick, deep dive through a coral bed in order to avoid the ship's torpedoes. The deep dive caused damage to the sub, including the advanced sound matting. The sub is stuck in Florida for repairs before it heads to New Orleans, where Sean plans to restart the Immune human race.
