Lt. Danny Green is a Navy officer aboard the USS Nathan James. He is a member of the Mountain Naval Warfare Unit (MNWU); as such, he normally wears the digital tan-patterned Combat Utility Uniform instead of the Navy Working Uniform (NWU) that the other crew members wear.His initial assignment is to protect Dr. Rachel Scott, though this is kept secret from Cmdr. Chandler. Green is usually a member of any tactical team that leaves the Nathan James to go on land. He is a good soldier, an excellent shooter and calm under pressure, but will improvise and deviate from plan in order to achieve the mission. He also has a strong sense of right and wrong. He also has a snarky sense of humor, as shown when he impersonated an automated call center voice while speaking to Amy Granderson after shutting down the Baltimore power plant.Green was best friends with Lt. Franklin Benz, another member of the MNWU, and was distraught when Benz killed himself after direct exposure to the virus during a fall on the Italian ship. Green adopted Benz's military-trained German Shepherd, Admiral Halsey, after Benz's death.Green was involved in an intimate relationship with Lt. Kara Foster aboard the Nathan James, which is against Navy regulations. His feelings for Lt. Foster often had him acting overprotective toward her by questioning her abilities to Chandler and other senior officers, which almost put the mission against the Russian ship in jeopardy. Green was angry at himself for letting his feelings for Foster almost jeopardize the mission. He admitted to Foster that he loved her, then broke up with her. After capturing monkeys for Dr. Scott's research, Green contracted Dengue Fever, which the crew was initially afraid was the virus. Foster heard Green was ill and rushed to his side, in defiance of the quarantine/lockdown order given by Chandler and Slattery. This led to the discovery of their relationship; they both received disciplinary action from Chandler and each had to tell the crew exactly why they were being disciplined. Green discovered Foster's pregnancy when she was a volunteer human testing subject for the experimental cure; he supported her during her bad reaction to the cure. He met Foster's mother when they went ashore in Norfolk to deliver the cure to safe zones; Foster's mom told them both that she knew about their relationship and the baby just by looking at them, which surprised Green and Foster because only a select few people aboard the Nathan James knew about either. However, her mom seemed to approve of Green for her daughter.Green was part of the team that infiltrated the Chosen compound in Florida. When he was tasked with delivering teddy bears with vials of the virus tucked inside to local children, he managed to scar away the children and kill the renegade soldiers sent to make sure he did it. He burned all of the virus-packed teddy bears before he & the team were extracted from the rally point and taken back to the ship. Show less «
