Cossetti is an enlisted sailor aboard the USS Nathan James. His rank is that of Petty Officer Third Class.Cossetti was one of the sixteen crew members who panicked and asked to leave the ship after the land team returned from Nicaragua with the monkeys for testing, and there was notice of a lot of secretive behavior by Dr. Rachel Scott and the senior officers. He and O'Connor tried to convince Miller to leave with them, but Miler refused. After receiving a thorough explanation of what was really going on, Cossetti and the others requested to re-enlist in the US Navy and were sworn in again by Cmdr. Chandler.Because he was the most vocal about the ship's secrecy, and the one who stoked panic and tried to convince others to leave, he received a frigid reception from most of the crew, as they no longer trusted him since he was willing to leave when things got rough. As a result, he felt an urgent need to redeem and prove himself again. Cossetti was assigned to replace Lt. Franklin Benz in the Mountain Naval Warfare Unit, at Chandler's suggestion; the MNWU was run by Lt. Danny Green, Benz's best friend. Green was hard on Cossetti and told him that he could never fill Benz's shoes, and he had to bring the effort because Green wouldn't always be around to cover his butt. During the rescue effort of Bertrise on the Jamaican fishing boat, Cossetti was the one to find her hiding aboard the boat. Cossetti was peeved to have to ride on the other ship with the rest of the extraction group; as a result, he failed to notice crucial information that could have helped locate Cmdr. Chandler and Tex when they went missing after the extraction.Cossetti was assigned to the extraction team again when they went to rescue Chandler and Tex, who had been found and captured by the Russians. He explained to Slattery about the mechanical makeup of the Russian boat and how to best place explosives in order to sink it. Cossetti set the explosives on the Russian ship and provided gun cover for the others as they escaped the boat before it blew. During the ride back to the NJ, Cossetti was congratulated by Green for his efforts; he then passed out and Green discovered that Cossetti had been mortally wounded.Cossetti died before they reached the NJ. His body was carried aboard the ship by Green. Cossetti was given a Navy funeral with full honors.
