LIEUTENANT (afterward LIEUTENANT COMMANDER) TUVOK (Tim Russ), a Vulcan, was assigned by Starfleet to infiltrate the Maquis organization aboard Chakotay's Maquis vessel before pulled into the Delta Quadrant along with the U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656, Captain Kathryn Janeway commanding. For his regular assignment he served as master-at-arms and chief tactitian aboard that vesselHe was born on the Vulcanis Lunar Colony. Tuvok was pressured by his parents -- in a thoroughly rational manner, of course -- into following them into Starfleet and graduated Starfleet Academy at the age of 29. He was originally posted to Capt. Hikaru Sulu on the U.S.S. Excelsior. He served as a security chief and tactical officer under Captain Kathryn Janeway before going undercover. Tuvok's physical, investigative and tactical skills are an inspiration to the crew of the Voyager, while his Vulcan equanimity and calm demeanor also make him a valued peacekeeper. With his combination of wisdom, experience and vitality, Tuvok is one of the most respected members of the crew and highly trusted by Janeway. In his youth, he was an opponent of the Federation-Klingon treaties but later came to see the wisdom of fellow Vulcan Spock's drive for alliance. He is an expert botanist, practices the Keethara meditation routine, and began his interest in the Vulcan game kal-toh with master studies at age five. He once taught archery science at the Vulcan Institute for Defensive Arts, and has maintained a scholarly interest in the study of violence.Note: in the Mirror, Mirror/Crossover universe, Tuvok never was assigned to a ship named Voyager, and never saw the Delta Quadrant. In his day the Terran Empire, of whom the Vulcans had been cliental allies, was no more, and all Humans and Vulcans were slaves. Tuvok turned rebel, first under the command of Captain Benjamin L. Sisko, then under the command of Miles Eugene Smiley O'Brien. Show less «
