Born Annika Hansen to exobiologists Magnus and Erin Hansen, she was assimilated by the Borg as a young child after parents began to investigate the existence of the collective race. Her full Borg designation is Seven of Nine Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix Zero-One. As a drone, she assisted in the assimilation of millions, from individuals to entire species. She personally assimilated many individuals from a variety of species, including Humans, Klingons, Ferengi, Bajorans, Bolians, Krenim and Cardassians.Upon joining the crew of the Voyager, she became known simply as Seven. Because she had been assimilated from a very young age, adapting to life as an independent individual initially proves difficult. At first, she resists her existence outside the Borg collective, believing individuality and lack of organization to be fatal weaknesses. Seven has frequent run-ins with crew members over her social conduct, or lack thereof. She has the tendency to be terribly blunt and show little care for other people's feelings.Though seemingly emotionless, Seven can express intense feelings of rage, fear, guilt and sorrow when appropriately stimulated, especially when confronted with her past or subjected to immense psychologic pressure.Seven is also separated from others by her physical attributes. She still needs regular regeneration in a Borg alcove instead of sleeping, and keeps the ability to hear and communicate with other Borg. She is stronger than her shipmates and possesses Borg nanoprobes, which prove extremely useful from time to time.
