Winn Adami is a Bajoran religious leader, known as a kai. She does not believe Benjamin Sisko is worthy of being the Emissary of the Prophets and receiving their insight. She was imprisoned for her faith during the Cardassian Occupation. She is one of the Bajorans who objects to Keiko O'Brien's teachings in the school aboard Deep Space 9, because she was not teaching Bajoran religious beliefs.Vedek Bareil Antos is her advisor and guides her in peace negotiations with Legate Turrel of the Cardassian Central Command.At one point, she tried to seize control of the Bajoran Provisional Government until Kira and Shakaar managed to stop her.She continued to be in conflict with Kira, who accused her of being overly ambitious and power-hungry, at the expense of her duties as Kai.She eventually fell under the influence of Gul Dukat, former Cardassian Prefect of Bajor, who is disguised as a Bajoran farmer (Anjohl Tennan). When she realizes that she has been corrupted by the Pah Wraiths, she tries to redeem herself to the Prophets. But when Kira suggests she step down as Kai, she decides instead to release the Pah Wraiths, thinking she would be their Emissary. Instead, she ends up being sacrificed to them.
