Marcus is one of three leaders that control the Italian Vampire coven that live in the city of Volterra better known as the Voltouri in the Twilight Saga. Little is known of his past except that like his co-leaders Marcus is among the oldest Vampires in existence having been around for approximately five thousand years and along with Caius and Aro he is considered royalty among their kind.Marcus was born in 1350 BC in Greece.He has an ability which is to be able to see and sense the loyalty/emotional bonds an individual or group of beings has with others they associate with. This is useful especially if the Voltouri want to select new members for the guard from an established coven or if they are dealing with a rival. All he would need do is look at them to know right away which members of the coven are loyal to the leaders, could be convinced to surrender peacefully and betray their clan. Following this the Guard can then plan an attack with minimal risk of failure.After losing his wife, Didyme who was also Aro's sister, Marcus exists almost like a statue except when he feeds from humans brought to the Voltouri's lair.
