Irina was born in 1000s AD, in Slovakia, and is part of the vegetarian vampire coven in Denali, Alaska.She and her sisters Tanya and Kate are the daughters of Sasha, who died in the year 1000 during the Plague of the Immortal Children. Sasha had created a child vampire, incapable of judging right and wrong and almost completely impossible to control like most young children. This child was capable of the strength of every vampire though, so it was literally impossible to tame. The Volturi stepped in, destroying each and every immortal child and their creators. This included Sasha and her child. However, neither Tanya, Kate nor Irina knew of the child and so when the Volturi came to destroy them, Aro touched their hands and found they had no knowledge of the child. They were acquitted.But now all the sisters are embittered by that experience and hate the Volturi for what they did. The events that lead to Irina's betrayal of the Cullen family are: the death of her mate Laurent who was killed by the werewolves and also the fact that Renesmee, Bella and Edward's half-human, half-vampire hybrid daughter looks an awful lot like an immortal child. Irina saw Renesmee with the intention of going to apologize to the Cullens for her failure to help them with the fight against the newborn army back in Eclipse. From the hills nearby to where Bella, Renesmee and Jacob were hunting, Irina sees Renesmee and mistakes her for an immortal child - the very thing that had indirectly killed her mother.Following this, she goes to the Volturi to turn in the Cullens for what she thinks is the creation of an immortal child. She and the Volturi then come to Forks to punish the Cullens, but what they don't expect is an opposition large enough to fight back - including Irina's sisters Tanya and Kate. It is quickly disproved that Renesmee is an immortal child as a number of witnesses claim that Renesmee has grown. This is something a child vampire would be incapable of. Caius, the cruelest member of the Volturi, executes Irina on December 31, 2006. Show less «
