Arrow is based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, a costumed crime-fighter. Season 1 premiered on The CW on October 10, 2012. The series focus on Oliver Queen, billionaire playboy, who spends 5 years shipwrecked on a mysterious island. Showing all facets of the mysterious loner, this realistic drama follows the charismatic but shallow Oliver that disappeared, the hardened Oliver that returned and the Oliver that has been forged into the weapon against injustice known as... 'the Arrow'.
We'll have Green Arrow canon characters swinging in and out of the series, but it appears none will stick while the main offensive is Lance vs. Arrow. Oh, please let me be wrong.
It was all in this week's episode of Arrow, "Betrayal," during which Oliver Queen finally faces the truth about his mother's involvement in the citywide criminal conspiracy he's piecing together.
There's action, intrigue, and while Vanch is pretty weak as villain-of-the-week, the ongoing Moira Queen sub-plot and the introduction of Slade Wilson means that there's plenty of interesting foes for Oliver to tangle with.
Still, however melodramatic, the events of the episode (thematically speaking), could prove to have lasting ramifications for more than just Oliver and Moira.
"Betrayal" doesn't get everything right, but it gets a lot of mileage out of its titular theme, as multiple characters betray the trust of those they supposedly care about.
There was a lot that went down on Arrow tonight - a new big bad, a bust gone wrong, a kidnapping, and an inadvertent confession, to name just a few - and for me, that was kind of the problem.
It not only disappoints me to tell you that the latest episode ranks among the most myopic, but also that it's hard to summarize what exactly makes "Betrayal" any worse than other entries.
