Will Turner is the son of 'Bootstrap' Bill Turner. He travels to the Caribbean at an early age after his mother dies, looking for his father, whom he believes to be a respectable merchant sailor. His father sends him a golden medallion, one of the 882 identical pieces of cursed Aztec gold.He is introduced in the first film when the ship he is traveling on is sunk by the Black Pearl and Barbossa's crew. looking for the medallion. He is rescued by a ship full of settlers from England, containing Lieutenant Norrington, Governor Swann and Elizabeth Swan. Apprenticed to a blacksmith at the settlement of Port Royal, Will became a proficient sword-fighter and began to fall in love with the beautiful Miss Swann. He despised pirates until he was forced to ally with Jack Sparrow in order to rescue Elizabeth from the clutches of Barbossa and his crew. Jack tells him the truth about his father and Will discovers that the pirates must use his blood to lift the curse coming from Aztec gold upon them. At the end of first installment Will decides to free Jack Sparrow imprisoned in Port Royal and sentenced to death, and before doing that expresses his true feelings to Elizabeth, whom he helped to save. He is still very much in turmoil over the true identity of his father, and his own, not siding with pirates, but on the other hand he can see the worthy, good side of Jack's personality and doesn't want to see him dead. This is the setting for a further conflict and arc of this character. Will meets his father in 'Dead Man's Chest' only to discover he has been enslaved to crew Davy Jones' ship, the Flying Dutchman. Will that missed his father and undertook the voyage as a kid to find him, promises to release him from Jones' grasp, and goes with the others to bring back Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones' Locker in order to use the Black Pearl against Jones. Will is fiercely loyal to those close to him, and at times a bit naive, throwing himself in the midst of things with his heart open. With time he is trying to learn to be more manipulative and is not afraid to trick Sparrow and Barbossa in order to get what he requires to free his father or Elizabeth. In general his main conflict is that he is torn between 2 people: If he destroys Davy Jones in order to free his father, Will must take Jones' place as captain of the Flying Dutchman. Elizabeth would not be able to follow. If he chooses Elizabeth, he automatically chooses to abandon his father.During the final battle Will realizes what must be done, and Barbossa marries Will and Elizabeth on the deck of the Black Pearl. Meanwhile Jack Sparrow also has ideas about destroying Jones (which must be done by stabbing his heart locked in a chest) and sailing the seas forever as a captain of Flying Dutchman. In the end however, the decision is made for them. Davy Jones delivers a fatal blow to Will, and Jack wraps Will's hand in the sword and stabs Jones's heart to prevent him from dying. Will takes Davy Jones's place as captain of the Flying Dutchman, only allowed to venture ashore once every ten years.
