Captain Hector Barbossa is a character from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. He is the main villain of the first movie, but he becomes an ally in the sequels. He was a pirate serving as the first mate of Captain Jack Sparrow, until en route to a hefty payload of Aztec gold he persuades Jack to give up the bearings and promptly leads a mutiny against him. But, as it turned out, the gold was cursed. Barbossa and his crew turned into zombies, looking human most of the time but showing their true zombie form when moonlight shines on them. At first they revelled on this, but the fact that they couldn't feel a thing drove them crazy. They found out that the only way to break the curse is to collect all the Aztec gold coins, and repay their own blood. Unfortunately they had strapped one of their crew, 'Bootstrap' Bill Turner, to a cannon and sent him down to Davy Jones' Locker, thus they needed a member of his family to repay the blood in Bootstrap's place. After they found all the gold coins, they kidnapped Elizabeth Swann, believing her to be Bootstrap's daughter. So her then secret admirer, Will Turner (the real son of Bootstrap,) teamed up with Captain Jack Sparrow to rescue her.In the end, Sparrow shoots Barbossa in the heart. Barbossa taunted him about wasting his only bullet, until he saw Will Turner cutting his palm with a dagger, shedding his own blood and thus ending the curse. In that moment, the bullet in the heart took effect and Barbossa dies.Barbossa is resurrected by Tia Dalma, who confides in him that she is the sea goddess Calypso, and tricks him into calling the pirate Brethren Court as one of the nine Pirate Lords in order to set her free. After releasing Calypso, she refuses to honour their agreement to destroy Lord Beckett and the East India Trading Company instead choosing to create a maelstrom in the middle of the battlefield. At the end of the Trilogy his character has gone full circle and he once again takes the Black Pearl from under Jack Sparrow's nose.He appears in the videogame Kingdom Hearts II , where he tries to use the Heartless to kill Will Turner and break the curse, but Jack Sparrow, Sora, Goofy and Donald defeat him.Barbossa considers himself a man of honour despite being a pirate, and often exploits loopholes in agreements he makes to his own ends. His favorite food appears to be the apple. As with the Biblical story of Adam and Eve, the apple is the forbidden fruit as Barbossa cannot eat it while cursed, and he dies too soon after the curse is lifted to be able to taste one. The first shot of Barbossa after his resurrection is of him eating an apple, proving he is actually alive again.
