Arlene Fowler is a waitress at Merlotte's who is habitually unlucky in love. She has been married four times and is a single mother of two. She is generally a nice person, but is openly disdainful of vampires, mostly out of ignorance, and disapproves of Sookie Stackhouse's relationship with vampire Bill Compton, even though she is friends with Sookie.Sookie often fills in for Arlene so she can go home to her kids.In the first season she is dating Rene Lenier, who works on the road crew with Jason Stackhouse. Arlene is so desperate for a relationship that she is blind to Rene's faults.Arlene is mostly concerned with finding happiness, for herself and her children. She speaks her mind and is brassy and tough, although not the most perceptive person in the world. Despite her bigotry and occasional small-mindedness, Arlene has a warm heart and tries to do right by people.
