Tami Taylor is the wife of Dillon High School Panthers head coach Eric Taylor, mother of two girls -- 16-year-old Julie and newborn Grace, and a strong, independent woman. She decides to return to work early in the series, accepting a position as a guidance counselor at Dillon. My high school? Eric asks after hearing the news. I wasn't aware that you bought, she replies, but, yeah. So goes the relationship between the two, who trust each other immensely, despite occasional arguments. Tami is Eric's sounding board, and vice versa, on things that they each have to deal with in their work lives. In her job, she has to handle issues of players' academic eligibility, rally girls and their responsibilities to the players, and general student issues. This all means that Eric and Tami's worlds occasionally collide, but through it all she serves as his anchor as he navigates the machine that is high school football in West Texas.Tami is a strong-minded woman who can make bad decisions impulsively, now and then, but is usually quick to admit a mistake and work to resolve it. She has a good relationship with her 16-year-old daughter Julie, but is not entirely approving of her relationship with quarterback Matt Saracen.
