Julie Taylor is the daughter of Eric and Tami Taylor. She begins the series as a freshman at Dillon High School in West Texas, where her father is the new head coach of the football program -- the biggest game in town. She initially shows absolutely no interest in her dad's work and his place at the school she attends, and in the city where she lives. But a romantic interest in a player changes all that.Through her first couple of years in high school, Julie engages in some typical teenage rebellion -- starting a sexual relationship, drinking, getting a tattoo -- but, through it all, she has a reasonably strong relationship with her parents, who keep a watchful eye on her without being too overbearing. Her relationship with quarterback Matt Saracen is particularly tricky, not least because they are both fairly shy and awkward at the start. Complicating matters even more is that Julie's father is Matt's coach, and Matt and Eric share an even more father-son-style relationship given Eric's dedication to mentoring Matt through his development as the team's quarterback and the fact that Matt's father is serving in Iraq. Julie is generally prepared for the world and all it has to offer, but occasionally demonstrates signs that she grew up in a bit of a sheltered environment in West Texas.
