Landry Clarke is the best friend of Matt Saracen, the newly installed quarterback of the Dillon High School Panthers football team in West Texas, and knows others players on the team quite well. At the start of the series, Landry is not on the football team. He gets the football experience vicariously through Matt, but has his own stuff going on. He is in a band and is very dedicated to his school work. It is clear that, despite his school and his town's adoration of the high school football team, Landry sees his future as being beyond the city limits of Dillon, Texas, and doesn't buy into the hype as much as others tend to. He is in awe, and perhaps a bit jealous of, the kind of attention the football players get around town -- particularly how the team's rally girls answer to each player's beck and call.Landry is a good friend to Matt and is always there to lend his support. He's also good for a laugh and makes generally interesting observations about the world in which they live. Landry is deeply in love with Tyra Collette, to whom he lost his virginity, but she doesn't much return the sentiment.
