Shannon Rutherford is a survivor of the Oceanic Flight 815 crash and the spoiled stepsister of Boone. Her father, who'd taken care of her financially, died in a car accident and her stepmother refused to give her any more money. Shannon and Boone have a unique, kind of creepy, relationship that has dipped into romantic territory, although they have agreed to pretend that never happened. On the island, Shannon is distraught at first before becoming unbearably unhelpful and isolating herself from the group. She doesn't like the way Boone has become overly protective of her, though, and soon starts to venture off and volunteer for some of the group's more dangerous expeditions -- perhaps just to spite her brother. Once she becomes more involved with the group, she develops a romantic relationship with Sayid.
