Juliet Burke, introduced in the third season, is a fertility researcher who had worked in Miami with her ex-husband, Edmund Burke, and was approached by Dr. Richard Alpert about joining what she thought was going to be a six-month project with a small research company. Juliet, whose unauthorized experimental fertility work with her previously infertile sister were successful, was brought by Alpert and Ethan Rom to the island, where she was asked to figure out why the island seemed to be killing pregnant women. On the island, Juliet is among The Others, but is far less invested in anything they have going on and mostly just wants to get home to her sister after having been on the island for three years and counting. When The Others and the Oceanic survivors meet up, Juliet seems to have a clear connection with Jack and becomes critical to the group's plans.
