Cool under pressure, dangerous, perpetually sleep deprived -- many words and phrases describe Jack Bauer, a peace officer whose brains and brawn have made him the arch nemesis of terrorists and turncoats across the globe (whether they know it or not).Jack is a Federal Agent working for the Counter Terrorist Unit based in Los Angeles. He is generally known for his non-compromising, sometimes erratic behavior -- but is also trusted as a highly effective operative, responsible for preventing numerous major terrorist attacks on U.S. soil and saving untold lives. Jack holds an English degree from the University of California at Los Angeles and, a bit more related to his day-to-day job responsibilities, Criminology and Law from the University of California at Berkeley. He went onto Airborne School and served with the 75th Ranger Regiment, seeing combat in Panama (Operation Just Cause). Upon returning from Panama, Bauer was selected for Special Forces training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He then saw combat in the first Gulf War, Somalia, and additional classified missions. He was recruited into the CTU by Christopher Henderson.Jack is married to Teri Bauer and is the father to young Kim -- both of whom have a bad habit of becoming embroiled in plots to destabilize and depopulate the nation. Jack is extremely devoted to both family and country, often forcing him to make tough decisions when his job involves protecting one or the other. As one might expect, he is extremely proficient with firearms and remains in peak mental and physical condition, requirements for staying one step ahead of bad guys during missions that routinely play out over the course of all 24 hours in a single day. Jack is a patriot, but he is also no boy scout, sometimes employing less-than-savory methods -- like, for instance, torture -- to get the job done.Though he has his detractors, Jack is undeniably a force with which many terrorists have reckoned and few have survived. He also looks very cool in sunglasses.
