Unlike his boss, Chief Wayne Unser, Deputy Chief David Hale does not think the Sons do any good for the town of Charming. He makes it known that as soon as Unser retires, he will make trouble for the club. Because of his squeaky clean image, Unser calls Hale Captain America. When Hale feels that Unser isn't doing enough to rid Charming of the Sons, he calls in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, including Agent June Stahl, with whom he develops a relationship.In season two, when the white separatist group, the League of American Nationals, comes to town, Hale develops a better understanding, if not sympathy, for Unser's view that the club can be a benefit to Charming.Background: Has a brother, Jacob Hale Jr., who is a developer and aspiring politician and does not have his brother's scruples. Their father Jacob Hale was a county judge and a rich man.
