BENNY RUSSELL wrote visionary science fiction in the 1950's--a time of some of the bitterest relations between and among the various races that made up the population of the United States of America. Sadly, his editors and publishers did not appreciate his efforts. Not only on account of the color of his own skin, but also on account of the color of the skin of the main character in the story arc he created: Captain Benjamin Sisko. In fact he is a creation of a particularly dangerous non-linear entity: a Pah Wraith. These deadly enemies of the Prophets will do anything to stop Benjamin Sisko from completing his mission as Emissary. Including trying to fool him into thinking himself a mere figment of the imagination of a writer who lived four centuries in the past. A man first hassled, then denied publication in the most ignominious manner imaginable, then confined to a mental ward and ordered to cease and desist from writing his stories on pain of electroconvulsive therapy, drugging, or whatever other savage treatment was common in that day.
