In the third season, Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy hit the road in search of God, but the cowboys from hell did not leave them but tried to chase them everywhere. Jesse makes a risky deal with a cowboy killer and he's a strong race and danger.
Dominic Cooper is at his best this season as Jesse grapples with the moral ramifications of his actions. He may not have a pulpit, but he briefly visits hellfire down upon the lowlifes clamoring around him.
What we have in "The Tombs" is an attempt to do good work over bad. While the episode has its problems even on its own merits, it at least tries to tell a coherent story about the ways Jesse's childhood has shaped his adult life.
