How I Met Your Mother returns for season 5. When Ted met Robin, it was love at first sight, but when things didn’t work out, Ted realized destiny must have something else in store. The series is narrated through flashbacks from the future. When the gang finds out that Barney and Robin are hesitant to define their relationship, Lily forces them to confront their biggest fear... becoming boyfriend/girlfriend. Meanwhile, Ted is anxious about teaching his first lecture. When Robin fears that Barney is cheating on her, she soon discovers that he is spending his evenings with Ted learning everything there is to know on how to date her. Marshall gives away a prized possession.
This season has not been the unmitigated disaster that some seem to think; there have been plenty of high quality episodes and a couple of series high points. But it's been a rough ride, especially since we got back from that mini-hiatus.
It was a season of ups and downs, with a handful of fantastic standalone episodes sandwiched within so-so storylines (and one that didn't work at all).
