Derek Easley is an actor, screenwriter, and producer/director of independent feature films, documentaries and shorts. He has worked in various capacities for a decade and half on films ranging in budgets from $150 to $150 million, and acted in projects for most of the major Hollywood Studios. The low budget horror feature film Middle of the Night was produced and stars Mr. Easley, and is in the works to become a franchise. Studying under some of the top names in the screenwriting world, Derek and has gone on to make films that went viral online and appeared in film festivals. Since 2000, he has worked on all manner of jobs in the industry, including red carpet interviewer, film premiere security, crew jobs such as production assistant, gaffer, assistant director and he has also worked in editing, script coverage, and stunt work. Derek has a background in stage theater, division one sports, and martial arts. Derek worked on Jersey Boys with Clint Eastwood, has experience in live improv comedy (performing with the likes of Wayne Brady), and acted on shows such as How I Met Your Mother (where he played the episode titled character "The Sexless Innkeeper") and CSI. Derek is the Chairman of the Long Beach Acting and Film Association (LBAFA), an organization he founded in 2012, linking industry professionals with students. The group mentors young people and shoots short films, which go to film festivals and gives new talent IMDb credits. LBAFA has been so successful, that Derek is starting a sister group in 2016 called the Bay Area Acting and Film Association (BAAFA). Derek has taught lessons and given motivational speeches for numerous classrooms and film industry educational venues, and organized and hosted dozens of independent film showcases in Long Beach. Over the years, Derek has produced over 500 YouTube videos. Additionally, he has attended a multitude of comic cons and film festivals around the nation, often working as a credentialed media correspondent, but also being featured as an invited film industry professional where he promoted projects, artists, actors, and models. Derek has been a moderator for several panels, including topics ranging from indie filmmaking to Star Wars costumers & charities. He is in production on his passion project, a feature documentary about body image in Hollywood called Typecast, which features Danny Trejo and various other celebrities.
