Former glee club star Will Schuester takes over McKinley High School';;;s glee club in the hopes of restoring it to its former glory. He is faced with the challenge of converting a group of misfits, including fame-hungry Rachel Berry, Mercedes Jones, Kurt Hummel, Tina Cohen-Chang, and Artie Abrams, into a team of singers. With harsh criticism from everyone, including Will’s tough-as-nails wife Terri and McKinley’s egotistical cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, he is determined to prove them all wrong and lead the glee club to the greatest competition of them all: Nationals.
Glee is starting out smartly, a promising blip in a fall season dominated otherwise by the usual reality sludge and forensic law enforcement blah-blah-blah.
At its best, Glee is not just entertaining but elating, dramatizing Breakfast Club-quality teen angst with the aid of tight production numbers covering new and classic popular songs.
