Dexa is a widowed Talaxian who lives among a group of about 500 Talaxians who have been travelling the Delta Quadrant looking for a new home. The nomadic group has settled and constructed a habitat inside a large asteroid that is claimed by another species for mining rights. She has an adolescent son Brax, who is drawn to Neelix as a surrogate father. Dexa is similarly attracted to Neelix, presumably by his demonstrations of gentleness, empathy, strength of character, and leadership.
