Rhys is the long-suffering boyfriend/fiance/husband of Gwen Cooper. He initially does not know that Gwen is a member of Torchwood. He believes that she is on some sort of special-ops police team. Between series 1 and 2, he proposes to Gwen.In series 2, Rhys becomes inadvertently embroiled in a Torchwood case. He discovers what Gwen has been doing and becomes pivotal to solving this case. At the end of the episode, Jack tells Gwen to Retcon him, but she refuses.In series 3 / miniseries 1 Children of Earth Gwen reveals to Rhys that she's pregnant with his child. Distraught by the apparent fate of Earth's children she half threatens to abort the baby but later tearfully confesses that she would never do that to Rhys and apologizes whole heartedly.After the death of Ianto Jones Rhys and Gwen rescue children from Ianto's sister's home and try to hide them from government troops intent on capturing them to be turned over to the 456.In the opening of series 4 / miniseries 2 Miracle Day Rhys and Gwen are living in exclusion in a cottage with their infant daughter. When Jack and Gwen are picked up by the CIA their family is split up, Rhys and their daughter are forced to stay behind in Wales while Jack and Gwen are forcefully renditioned to the US by CIA Agent Rex Matheson.
