Deputy U.S. Marshal Rachel Brooks is the baby of the office -- both in terms of age and experience. Yet, like her colleagues, she is not someone to be underestimated. Smart, assured and blessed with an instinct that sees trouble coming from afar, she helps colleague Raylan Givens as much as she spars him (usually, but not always, good naturedly). Rachel is African American, which doesn't go unnoticed among the criminal element of Harlan County, a number of whom are unapologetic racists.Very little is known about Rachel's personal life as she seems at reticent as Raylan to open up. She grew up in a small town in Tennessee and was raised by a single mother. There is tragedy in her family, but Rachel demands zero sympathy and certainly doesn't court it. Like her Marshal colleague Tim Gutterson, she serves as an excellent foil and supporter of Raylan.
