Born by the name of Mieczysaw Kuzik, Mickey Doyle changes his name because he thinks it sounds better. Mickey is an aspiring bootlegger and is excited to show Nucky his moonshine operation, which is based in the basement of a funeral home. Mickey is awkward in social settings, cracking odd jokes and laughing nervously -- usually at the wrong times. Mickey comes off as a bit of a rube, but occasionally shows that his brand of manipulation and ability to seize on opportunities that come his way are anything but dumb.Mickey's opportunism is demonstrated by the simple fact that he seems to pop up all the time, finding himself involved in Nucky's business deals and bringing Nucky potential new customers.Mickey has a tendency to rub people the wrong way, though. Jimmy Darmody attacks him after Mickey plays a practical joke on him, and he has a deep and long-held feud with Chalky White, who he sees as a rival in the bootleg organization and actually takes over Mickey's operation early in the series. Nucky hands Mickey's operation to Chalky after a raid on Mickey's funeral-home distillery exposes him and makes him too much of a liability. Still, Nucky keeps Mickey close.
