Grace Van Pelt is a character on The Mentalist . She is portrayed by Amanda Righetti. Van Pelt is an agent with the C.B.I. (California Bureau of Investigation), and was a graduate of the CBI Academy around the time that Patrick Jane came to work for the CBI. Although a devout Christian, she was fascinated with the Vizualize Cult of Bret Stiles. Her co-worker Wayne Rigsby is in love with her. They initially enter into a romantic relationship. However their boss, Teresa Lisbon, insists that the relationship ends or they will jeopardize their jobs. Van Pelt ended the relationship. She later became engaged to FBI agent Craig O'Laughlin, but shot and killed him when it was revealed that he was a follower of Red John.Later in season 5, Rigsby and Van Pelt end up together again, and later marry when the CBI loosens the restrictions on relationships between agents on the same team. After the dissolution of the CBI, they form their own security company, and also have a daughter. She and Rigsby were enlisted by the FBI to uncover the conspiracy of Richard Haibach and his sister. She was kidnapped by Haibachs sister, which ultimately provoked the final confrontation where Haibach was killed. Although offered positions with the FBI, she and Rigsby declared their intent to remain in civilian life.
