Added as the fifth member of the Strike Team, Tavon was pushed onto Mackey's group after pressure to get an African-American detective onto the previously all-white crew. Initially kept in the dark about the group's shadier work, Tavon eventually earns the trust of Mackey and Lem, in particular, and Mackey starts to open up to the idea of Tavon as a permanent fifth member. Tavon has a tense relationship with Shane, who doesn't trust Tavon, is jealous of Tavon's new connection with Mackey and has generally racist tendencies. Before bringing Tavon into a greater role within the group, Mackey wants Tavon and Shane to work out their differences.
