Damon Pope is a wealthy real estate developer and the shadow head of the One-Niners, a black gang in Oakland. He is a drug kingpin with very long reach, even into prison. The Sons accidentally run up against him at the end of season four. He is the main antagonist of season five.Pope is merciless, but cool and calculating. He is able to discuss cold-blooded murder like he is negotiating a land swap. His number two, August, often carries out his dirty work -- Pope never gets his hands dirty, but he does like to oversee things personally. He doesn't hesitate to punish his own people if they fail him and has no problem dragging innocents into his battles. He detests loose ends.Jax handles most of the club's dealings with Pope, and despite some major stumbling blocks of grudges and grief, the two attempt to work out a mutually beneficial deal that preserves the overall peace. Pope fancies himself a mentor of sorts to Jax and thinks that he understands him as a man who bears the burden of leading and making difficult choices. Pope also positions himself as something a benevolent civic force, sometimes buying things for his neighborhood.Pope has a daughter, Veronica, who is dating Laroy, the head of the One-Niners gang.
