Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is a terrifically entertaining action-adventure hour that pays dividends for Avengers fanboys/girls but isn't so insular that the uninitiated will be baffled.
It's no easy feat to introduce us to each team member, and also make you like them and want to know more about them, but this is Joss we're talking about here.
Although the show's filming style is almost indiscernible from any of ABC's higher-budget programming, and many of the characters fall cleanly into generic stereotypes to begin with, the actors bring enough to their roles to get by.
Agents of SHIELD looks ready--at least judging from the pilot--to hew a solid middle path between The Avengers and Buffy. With great power comes.... high expectations.
