The series centers around a hip hop music and entertainment company, Empire Entertainment, and the drama among the members of the founders' family as they fight for control of the company. In Season 2, knowing Lucious won’t be held much longer in prison, Cookie and her allies within the Lyon family make a desperate attempt to seize control of the company.
They've done it... This is the perfect Empire episode. FIVE STARS. Somehow, the writers have managed to pick up damn near every random story line they wrote and dropped this season.
By the end of "Rise by Sin," audience members were given a moment to decompress after a dramatic, disheartening and chaotic episode, but audience members may also be used to that.
Amazingly, the assassination attempt is arguably not the most explosive event of the episode; on Empire, the verbal pyrotechnics are just as impressive.
This episode and the last episode are far from perfect television, but they boast a sense of urgency and purpose that the rest of Empire's second season has sorely lacked.
If he loves them at all-and Empire needs to stop trying to make "sympathetic, tortured" Lucious happen. It's only bringing the character arcs of everyone else on the show down.
