Zeddicus Z'ul Zorander- Zedd- is one of the main characters in the Legend of the Seeker series. He is a very skinny old man with crazy white hair, and often spouts out bits of wisdom wrapped in his favorite curse word- Bags! Zedd begins the story as Richard Cypher's oldest and closest friend and a cloud reader/jack of all trades. You soon find out, however, that Zedd has a secret... an important secret that, once revealed, changes Richard's life. That secret is that he is Richard's maternal grandfather. On the TV series, he rescued Richard from the massacre at Brennaden, and gave him to the care of George and Mary Cypher, in the books he lead Richard and his daughter/Richard's mother to Westland, and it was Zedd's daughter who married George Cypher and was killed in the fire.Zedd's father was a wizard and his mother was a sorceress. This powerful combination made Zedd a Wizard of the First Order, the most powerful type of Wizard. In the books, Zedd's wife Erilyn, had been killed during the first war with D'Hara, lead by Panis Rahl, Darken Rahl's father. In the TV series, he had also had a relationship with the witch-woman Shota, but left because their children would have been too powerful for anyones' good. In the TV series he had a younger brother named Thaddicus. Thaddicus is a complusive gambler who had sold most of the family's magical items. But he still had the most important one, The Key to the Crypt of Tamrang, where Kierian, the last Seeker before Richard, was buried. Zedd felt that this would be a good place to hide one of the Boxes of Orden. But he soon learned that Kierian was not as heroic as legend said, and Zedd decided to look elsewhere.Zedd also uses his magical skills to be a puppeteer. Using the alias Rubin Rybek, which he often used in the books) he infiltrated the palace of Milena, Queen of Tamarang. Milena had a Box of Orden, and was prepared to hand it over to Rahl. His front was that he wanted to preform for the Queen's daughter Violet's birthday. With the aid of Rachel, Violet's playmate, Zedd smuggled out the Box of Orden.On the TV series, Zedd was briefly reunited with his daughter Taralyn, who he had not seen since Richard's birth. It was then that Zedd revealed that he was Richard's grandfather. The reunion was cut short when Denna the Mord Sith killed Taralyn.In an alternate future that occurred after Richard disappeared while using the Boxes of Orden Zedd was killed. Believing Richard was dead, he hurled Wizard's Fire at the Mord Sith, forgetting about their ability to deflect and capture. The Mord Sith turned the fire back on him, killing him. When Richard returned, Kara the Mord Sith merely avoided the fire.With Darken Rahl dead Zedd declared that it is either time for a new era of peace, or that new evils will arise.
