Lorelai Gilmore had a daughter at age 16. She named her Lorelai, but nicknamed her Rory. She and her daughter have a very good relationship, to the point where they are more like best friends than mother and daughter. Lorelai's other best friends are Sookie St. James, with whom she owns and runs an inn, and Luke Danes. Lorelai has had relationships with; Max Medina, Christopher Hayden (Rory's father) numerous times, Jason Stiles, and Luke Danes. Lorelai's relationship with Rory's Chilton teacher, Max Medina, started in the 1st season and ended in the 2nd season. Lorelai started a relationship with Rory's dad, Christopher, in the 2nd season but it ended because his estranged girlfriend revealed that she was pregnant in the S2 season finale. The Jason Stiles relationship spanned the fourth season. She starts a relationship with Luke in the end of the 4th season, and it was on and off over the next few seasons, but the series ends with them together. Lorelai never really had a good relationship with her wealthy, somewhat snobbish parents, but they love Rory, and Lorelai's relationship with them gets a little better throughout the series. Lorelai is completely obsessed with coffee. She talks fast and she talks a lot; she makes witty remarks, often peppered with pop-culture references, in everyday conversations. There were many distractions for her throughout the series, but in the end, Rory was still basically her main reason for living, and their relationship was as strong as ever by the series finale.
