Christopher Hayden is the father of Rory Gilmore. He and Lorelai were only 16 when Rory was born. In a flashback episode, it is discovered that Christopher had been willing to marry Lorelai and work for her father's company when they found out she was pregnant, but Lorelai chooses to run away instead. The pregnancy caused him to have a terrible relationship with his parents, because they blame Rory and Lorelai for the fact that Christopher did not go to Princeton. Christopher claimed he never would have made it through Princeton even if Lorelai hadn't gotten pregnant.He first appears in season 1 episode Christopher Returns , which is the first time he visits Lorelai and Rory in Stars Hollow. During that time, he claimed that his business was doing well, but when he tries to buy a dictionary for Rory, he cannot afford it. He sleeps with Lorelai, and asks her to marry him, but is turned down.Starting in season 2, Christopher dates a woman named Sherry. That relationship goes downhill, and once Christopher tells Lorelai that he's going to move out of Sherry's, the two of them sleep together again. They are hoping to finally have a real relationship, but then Sherry calls Christopher and tells him that she's pregnant. This angers both Lorelai and Rory, and they refuse to speak to him. However, both of them are present at the birth of his daughter, Georgia[GiGi for short] in season 3. Christopher is not present when Rory graduates from Chilton that season because of work.Christopher does not appear in season 4. In season 5, Sherry leaves him and GiGi for a job in France. He has trouble raising her alone, and calls Lorelai for help. Rory tells Christopher to stay away from Lorelai because Lorelai was in a happy relationship with Luke Danes at the time. That season, Christopher's father dies. Rory visits him first, and then she leaves and Lorelai arrives. They drink a lot that night, but nothing happens between them.Emily Gilmore visits Christopher and tells him that she is not happy with the fact that her daughter is dating a diner owner. She gives him an invitation to her wedding vow renewal and tells him that he should be with Lorelai. Christopher gets drunk at the wedding and gets into an argument about Lorelai with Luke, which causes Luke and Lorelai to break up for a short time.In season 6, Christopher inherits a lot of money from his recently deceased grandfather. He offers to buy Lorelai and Rory whatever they want, but Lorelai tells him she doesn't want anything. Rory takes up his offer for him to pay for her tuition at Yale, which ends up upsetting Richard and Emily, who had been paying for Yale.There is an episode in season that deals with GiGi and how spoiled she has become. Lorelai helps Christopher realize this, and eventually Christopher is able to stop spoiling her.Christopher goes with Lorelai to Lane's wedding because Luke is out of town. After the wedding, Lorelai gives an embarassing drunken toast where she claims that she is not getting married to Luke.Luke and Lorelai get into a huge fight in the season 6 finale. An extremely upset Lorelai runs to Christopher, and in the cliffhanger ending she is seen waking up in Christopher's bed.Christopher and Lorelai begin dating in season 7. Christopher gets a letter from Sherry saying that she would like GiGi to visit her in France. While in Paris, Lorelai and Christopher get married. The relationship becomes strained when Lorelai says she wants more kids, but not right now. Christopher gets into a fist fight with Luke one episode, which ends with neither of them being victorious. The relationship between Christopher and Lorelai ends when Christopher finds a character reference that Lorelai had written for Luke so that he could get partial custody of his daughter. Christopher says it is a love letter, and tells Lorelai that he can't be her second choice. Christopher makes an appearance at Rory's college graduation, and he and Lorelai seem to be on good terms.
