Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee)Karen Cartwright is a young singer-actress from Iowa.She currently lives with her boyfriend Dev who works in the mayor's office.Like the roles she hopes to get, Karen is an ingenue, fairly green in the ways of show business. She lands an audition for Bombshell, the new musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe from successful musicals team Julia Houston and Tom Levitt.While she is a very gifted singer with natural instincts and quite beautiful, she is still very raw as a talent but the producers definitely see something in her. Bombshell director and choreographer Derek Wills is particularly impressed by her talent and beauty.Because of her small town background she is mocked by some of her peers in the theatre world though none deny her gifts. She also clearly has a big heart and endeavors to see the best in people.According to Playbill Karen's New York credits include The Prince and the Pauper (Queens Children's Theatre) and Dune! The Musical (NYC Fringe). Her Regional/Community Theatre credits include Hairspray, The Sound of Music, Chicago. Her television credits include guest spots on One Life to Live, Law & Order: SVU, as well as commercials.
