Greg Lestrade is a Detective Inspector with the New Scotland Yard who often calls on Sherlock Holmes for help with baffling cases. He knows Sherlock well enough to overlook his idiosyncrasies and lack of people skills and doesn't seem to have any ego problems when Sherlock is able to uncover a clue or solve a case that the police couldn't.Lestrade has worked with Sherlock for about five years and defends him to his fellow police to a point. He has grown accustomed to Sherlock's brusque manner and habit of insulting people who can't keep up with his quick thinking.He is close enough to Sherlock and Dr. John Watson that he attends their Christmas party. He goes out of his way, sometimes literally, to assist Sherlock, and even disobeys regulations at times to help him.Background: He is separated from his wife.
