Carson Beckett is the charming Scottish medical doctor on Atlantis. He is funny but also has very serious moments when it comes to his work, not only is he an accomplished doctor but he also does gene studies and is the one to discover the rare ATA gene (he discovers he himself has it). In doing gene studies he tries to find a way to reverse the Wraith and turn them into humans again, this backfires on him and he feels forever guilty about it even though the people who suffered weren't really people to begin with and they were life sucking Wraith. There are a several more cases where his gene study goes haywire on him and he blames himself even though it wasn't directly his fault. He is liked by almost everyone who has ever met him and keeps up a cheery disposition. He does not like 'Gate travel but does it anyway, he travels with John Sheppard and his team, though he is not part of the team they regard him as one becasue they are all close friends. His closest friend on Atlantis was revealed to be the arrogant Rodney McKay, a scientist. Though they seem to be polar opposites the two get along well with (seemingly) playful banter galore.Carson was killed late season three by an explosion after saving a man's life. Atlantis was greatly hurt by his departure. But he returns late season four as a clone (created by Michael) who has all the memories, the complete thought process etc. of the original Carson. He is an exact copy. He is now a reaccuring character.
