Madame Dorothea is Clary and Jocelyn's neighbor, who also happens to be a witch/fortune teller, though Clary believes she is just crazy before she discovers the Nephilim. Madame Dorothea also happens to have a Portal inside her apartment, the reason Jocelyn purchased the other half of the brownstone; so she could make a quick escape with Clary if she needed to. Jocelyn painted her tarot cards in return for Downworlder gossip about Valentine. The first time Clary actually meets Madame Dorothea is when she is with Jace. They just killed several Forsaken, and Madame Dorothea invites them into her apartment, saying there are more upstairs. The witch reads a fortune to Jace, saying he will fall in love with the wrong person, and then to Clary and becomes the first person to suggest there is a block in her memory. Clary ends up using the Portal to go to Luke's house, and Jace follows. At some point, Madame Dorothea becomes possessed by a Greater Demon called Abbadon. When Clary discovers that her mother hid the Mortal Cup by painting it into one of Madame Dorothea's tarot cards, she goes to confront the witch. Abbadon had hidden himself inside the Portal, and when Madame Dorothea opens the Door, Abbadon consumes and kills her.Madame Dorothea had been described as being quite old, with dark hair that had white streaks in it, which she piled on top of her head in a messy bun. She was known to wear very bright colors, and a lot of gold bracelet-like chains.
