Alaric is a werewolf we meet at first near the beginning of the book. He is also Luke's third-in-command, next to a werewolf named Gretel. When Gretel dies in the battle at Renwick's, he becomes Luke's second-in-command. Clary first meets Alaric in the Hotel Dumort, when Luke's pack storms through to save Clary and Jace. He also happens to be the werewolf that Clary throws a knife at. He tells her repeatedly not to be sorry for hurting him, because It was a well-placed blow. Alaric proves to be faithful and helpful to Luke and Clary not only in the Hotel Dumort, but also near the end of the book, when they break into Renwick's, the ancient ex-hospital where Valentine is hiding. Alaric protects them from the Forsaken before they get in, and saves Luke from being killed by Valentine by throwing himself in between the two. Alaric dies at Renwick's, in the process of protecting Luke from Valentine.
