The Affair explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship between Noah Solloway and Alison Bailey after the two meet in the resort town of Montauk on Long Island. No marriage is beyond temptation, and there is no refuting the connection set in motion when Noah and Alison meet by chance. What follows is far more than an intimate portrait; it’s a unique and thrilling narrative that unravels the dangerous truth layer by layer.
For many fans of The Affair, this is the episode we've all been anticipating: The appearance of Cynthia Nixon as Noah and Alison's therapist, Marilyn Sanders.
While The Affair Season 2 Episode 10 could have been slow given that Noah's half of the hour took place in a one-on-one therapy session, overall it was surprisingly tight and full of points to think about.
[Noah's] therapist, Marilyn, is played by one Cynthia Nixon! Hi, Cynthia Nixon! The following long and fascinating therapy scene is really, really wonderful.
Like the best episodes of In Treatment, [The Affair] was intelligent, fairly engrossing - within the limits of Noah's worldview - and a showcase for two fine actors, Dominic West and a guest star, Cynthia Nixon.
The Affair wisely calms things down by doing something completely out of character: Spending the entire first half of the episode with Noah talking to his couples' therapist, one-on-one.
Sometimes, The Affair is action-packed. Sometimes. Most of the time, well, we have weeks like this, where the actors get a real chance to shine - Dominic West, in particular, is a standout.
